NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University baseball team starts a four-game road skid this week, starting with a Battle of the Boulevard game at Lipscomb on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Lipscomb leads the all-time series with Belmont 89-63, with the two teams splitting the last two games against each other on April 6 in a doubleheader at Rose Park.
Lipscomb is off to a 12-19 start and a 4-8 start in Atlantic Sun play. The Bisons are hitting .246 as a team to go with 22 home runs while driving in 157 runs. Lipscomb's pitching holds an earned run average of 6.00, collecting 267 strikeouts in the process.
Haddon Adams leads the Bisons with a .295 batting average to go with eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and a .509 slugging percentage. Chaz Bertolani is currently on the Buster Posey Watch List and currently has a .284 batting average. Malik Williams adds power with seven doubles to go with a .273 batting average.
Head coach Dave Jarvis recently became the winningest coach in program history thanks to a doubleheader win on Saturday against Murray State. Jarvis now has 665 wins in his 24 years at Belmont, passing Dave Whitten (1969-1997) for the all-time wins record in program history. Jarvis and Whitten had a close relationship until Whitten's death in 2012, where Whitten served as an assistant and pitching coach under Jarvis from 1998-2000.
Junior Logan Jarvis has already placed himself in the Belmont Baseball record book. Hitting four triples in the 2021 season, he is now tied for 10th in the program's NCAA Era Single Season record book in that category. He needs just one more to move in a tie for fifth, which includes current Los Angeles Dodgers player and Belmont alum Matt Beaty. Jarvis is currently tied for third in triples in NCAA Division I Baseball.
Logan Jarvis was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. With the weekly honor, the Bruins have now had at least one player recognized for OVC Player of the Week in three of the last four seasons. Jarvis held a .500 batting average in last week's games to go with 10 RBIs, hitting a double, a triple and a home run in the process. The Franklin, Tenn., native recorded a career-high six RBIs in last Tuesday's game at North Alabama, marking the second consecutive season where he has driven in five or more RBIs in a game.
Game Notes
Sophomore Carson Shacklett and Logan Jarvis have helped the Bruins this season by getting on base, especially drawing walks. Both are currently 21st in NCAA Division I Baseball in that category this season with 25, currently sitting in second in the OVC.
Belmont has proven that they are never out of an inning when they are down to their last out. Over 25 percent of Belmont's runs scored this season have been with two outs, with the Bruins scoring 50 total runs in 2021 when they are down to their last out. Jack Capobianco and Logan Jarvis have both driven in double-digit runs this season with two outs on the board. The Bruins have also hit four home runs with two outs this season.
