Murray State Preview

MURRAY, Ky. - The Belmont University baseball team continues action on Wednesday, traveling to Murray State for a 4 p.m. first pitch.

The game will not be reflected in the Ohio Valley Conference standings and will be treated as a regular season non-conference game.

SERIES RUNDOWN

Belmont leads the all-time series with Murray State 25-18, winning the conference series earlier this season on April 17-18 in Nashville by taking two out of three games.

Even though the Bruins won the OVC series against Murray State a few weeks ago, the Racers have proved that they are still threats in the conference. The Racers are currently sitting in third place, currently in position to take one of the four spots in the conference tournament.

Murray State has the most power at the plate in the conference, leading the OVC in home runs with 62. Brock Anderson and Jordan Cozart co-lead the conference in homers, hitting 13 bombs each in 2021.

Head coach Dave Jarvis will be facing his old team on Wednesday, serving as an assistant coach at Murray State before taking the top job at Belmont. At Murray State, he was primarily responsible for the instruction of hitters and catchers as well as teaching base running skills. Jarvis also used his extensive junior college network to create a recruiting pipeline for the Racers.

Game Notes

Junior Logan Jarvis has already placed himself in the Belmont Baseball record book. Hitting five triples in the 2021 season, he is now tied for fifth in the program's NCAA Era Single Season record book and 10th in the program's All-Time Single Season record book in that category. He needs just one more to move in a tie for third in the NCAA Era Single Season record book and fifth in the All-Time Single Season record book. Jarvis is currently tied for third in triples in NCAA Division I Baseball.

Several players in Belmont's lineups rank in the top 40 in several statistical categories in NCAA Division I. Carson Shacklett ranks 13th in hit by pitch, John Behrends ranks 29th in runs and 33rd in total bases, Jack Rando ranks 27th in sacrifice bunts and Logan Jarvis ranks 26th in on-base percentage, 13th in RBIs and 23rd in sacrifice flies.

Sophomore Carson Shacklett and Logan Jarvis have helped the Bruins this season by getting on base, especially drawing walks. Jarvis is eighth in NCAA Division I Baseball in that category while Both are tied for 14th in the country in that category, co-leading the OVC in walks in the process. Both are four walks away from moving in the top 10 in the single season program record book.

First pitch is set for 4 p.m., with ESPN+ and live stats being available courtesy of Murray State Athletics.
