Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest hit a combined 10 home runs in Sunday's doubleheader against the Belmont University baseball team, sweeping the doubleheader by scores of 10-1 in game one and 11-1 in game two at David F. Couch Ballpark.
2019 ACC Player of the Year Bobby Seymour led the offensive charge for Wake Forest, hitting three home runs on the day.
With sophomore Tommy Crider hitting the fourth home run of his career in games against opponents from Power 5 conferences, Crider now leads Belmont Baseball players in the last decade in home runs against Power 5 conference opponents.
Game 1
Wake Forest struck first in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, following that up with another solo home run in the bottom of the third inning to move ahead 2-0. Crider's third home run of the season cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning, but the Demon Deacons hit a pair of solo home runs to extend its lead 4-1 in the next half-inning.
After drawing a leadoff walk and hitting a single in the bottom of the fifth inning, Wake Forest hit an RBI single to right field to push the Demon Deacons in front by four runs. Two singles in the bottom of the sixth inning set up another scoring opportunity, with a double to right center field putting Wake Forest ahead 7-1.
The Demon Deacons hit a double to leadoff the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring two runs off another home run. Wake Forest capped off its scoring spree in the bottom of the eighth inning, hitting a solo home run to move ahead by nine runs.
Game 2
The Demon Deacons picked up right where they left off in game one, hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to open game two with a 2-0 lead. Following two shutout innings without a run, Wake Forest capitalized off a double by hitting a home run to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning to double its lead and lead by four runs.
Wake Forest added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, hitting a solo home run to move ahead by five runs. The Demon Deacons followed that up with a two-run home run later in the inning, pushing Wake Forest out in front 7-0.
Junior Logan Jarvis hit his seventh home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning, but Wake Forest was unphased and scored two runs after loading the bases in the following half-inning. Wake Forest scored its 21st run of the day in the top of the eighth inning, getting a run home off a sacrifice fly.
Belmont (20-24) returns to action on Tuesday, taking on Austin Peay at Rose Park for a 4 p.m. first pitch. The game will not be reflected in the Ohio Valley Conference standings and will be treated as a non-conference mid-week game.
