NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's tennis used another dominant round of singles action to defeat rival Lipscomb, 5-2, Friday night from Richland Country Club Tennis Center.
Thought Lipscomb earned the doubles point, Belmont responded with convincing singles play to earn a fourth consecutive victory in the series.
"Lipscomb had us in doubles, they played with great energy and intention," Belmont Director of Tennis Mauricio Antun said. "But I was proud of how we responded in singles, throughout our lineup we competed well and gave ourselves a chance in every match."
The Bruins took home five of their six individual battles. Leading the way was sophomore Tomas Luis, who clinched the first point of the match for Belmont with a two-set victory over Luka Stojanovic: 6-1, 6-2.
After Luis, Belmont got victories from junior Jack Randall, sophomores Ian Cruz, Diego Castro, and senior Taisei Miyamoto to secure the result.
The Bruins are now 10-2 in singles play to start the spring.
"Feels good to win another Battle of the Boulevard," Antun said. "We need to get back to work this week since we go on the road again against another tough team local team."
Belmont returns to play Sunday, Feb. 6 at Chattanooga.
