Women's Soccer Records Fourth Win of the Season

Kennedy Wise Recorded her First Career Goal

NORMAL, Ill. – Belmont University Women's Soccer (4-2-5) claimed their second Missouri Valley Victory, 1-0 on the road, fourth of the season against Illinois State (2-11) in competitive midday matchup Sunday, October 2.

"It always feels good to earn a win and to earn a win on the road shows the ladies' commitment to preparing for the travel as well as the game. They understand the meaning of conference play and they come out to earn every point." Said Head Coach Heather Henson on the win.

The Bruins were eager to end their scoring drought as the sole goal of the match came in the ninth minute of the match to lead over the Redbirds.

A corner drawn for the Bruins led to the scoring opportunity. Maci Pekmeizan received the ball outside of the box. Pekmezian with a touch away from a defender sent in a hard shot, freshman Kennedy Wise was able to get a foot on it to ensure the goal, 1-0.

Wise recorded her first career goal; she has done nothing but impress since becoming a Bruin. Wise has made a name for herself on the back line to deepen Belmont's defense earning herself team saves and stopping the offense from numerous shots. Today, Wise deepened the offense to put the Bruins ahead. She now has an assist and goal to her name.

The Bruins took charge today, as they exploded with energy. Belmont possessed the ball for a majority of the match, while making tactical runs. As always, the Bruins' defense remained as solid as ever to post another shutout.

Goal keeper Sarah Doyle tallied the Bruins seventh shutout of the season. Doyle, another Bruin who continues to thrive. After today's match Doyle posts a .900 save percentage on the season, such an impressive statistic for the veteran goal keeper. Today, Doyle added six saves to her season total of 54.

Avery Nowak and Shae Doherty each posted two shots for the Bruins' seven total. Wise, Mai Thy Nguyen, and Anna Sweeney each added a shot to their name as well.

"I thought the ladies did well focusing on our game, taking care of the ball and build our attack by connecting passes and being confident in their decisions." Said Coach Henson on their success on the pitch.
