Belmont Battled in Des Moines

The Bruins Tallied Six Shots in 1-0 Loss

DES MOINES, Iowa.-- Belmont University Women's Soccer battled hard but fell 1-0 to the Drake University Bulldogs in the penultimate regular season matchup Thursday, October 20. 

The Bruins now hold an even 5-5-5 record on the season while 3-4-2 in conference. 

Belmont posted an impressive sheet with six shots, five corner kicks, and one save. An even battle on the pitch as both teams tallied six shots. The Bruins out shot the Bulldogs 3-2 for shots on goal. 

Drake found themselves in a pivotal position with a free kick outside the box. The Bulldog's leading goal scorer, Emma Nagel took the kick for Drake breaching the wall and past Sarah Doyle for the sole goal of the match. 

The Bruins have proved themselves this season to be a second half team. Belmont recorded five of their six shots in the second half maintaining the majority of the possession. In the final 45 minutes of play the Bruins left everything they had on the pitch as they played with confidence and poise. 

Avery Nowak, Leah Firsdon, and Mai Thy Nguyen each had a shot on goal for the Bruins. 

Goalkeeper Sarah Doyle posted a single save on the night to add to her now 67 saves on the season. 

In the final minute the Bruins posted their last  opportunity of the night with a corner kick but fell just short of a goal. The corner kick proved the Bruins resilience and commitment to fight until the very end.
