Women's Tennis Cruises on Day One of Belmont/Lipscomb Fall Invite

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Playing on its home courts for the first time of 2022-23, the Belmont University women's tennis team was dominant as the Bruins coasted to a trio of doubles wins and seven total singles victories Friday on the first day of the Belmont/Lipscomb Fall Invite in Nashville. Belmont was unscathed at the Belmont Tennis Complex, winning all three doubles matches in convincing fashion before taking all six singles matches and dropping only one set in the process.
 
Freshman Mariia Hlahola teamed up with sophomore Viktoria Kliimand to defeat Middle Tennessee's Karen Yibirin and Camila Barragan 6-3, while graduate student Meredith Roberts and sophomore Abi Solomon topped North Alabama's Juliette Talieu and Valeria San Miguel 6-2. Sophomore Anastasiya Zholdakova and senior Taylor Trondson won by an identical score against Lipscomb's Liza Diachenko and Perri Howard.
 
In singles action, Hlahola, Kliimand, Roberts and freshman Libbie Hamilton wasted no time in earning lopsided wins. Hlahola bested Emma Honore of Murray State 6-1, 6-2 and Kliimand cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over the Racers' Jordina Font Montero. Roberts took out Murray State's Paola Campigotto 6-2, 6-2 and at the opposite end of Belmont Boulevard at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center, Hamilton ousted Perri Howard of Lipscomb 6-0, 6-3.
 
Zholdakova gave up only six games to the Racers' Annika Pschorr in a 6-4, 6-2 victory as Trondson and Solomon gritted out tightly contested singles matches. Trondson battled through back-to-back 7-3 tiebreakers against the Bisons' Emma Zakordoniec and Solomon prevailed in three sets. After dropping the opening set to Sarah Bureau of Murray State in a 7-4 tiebreak, Solomon came back to win sets two and three, 6-4 and 7-5.

The two-day Belmont/Lipscomb Fall Invite continues Saturday with Belmont hosting Lipscomb. Doubles matches will begin at 10 a.m. followed by singles play. After a short break, the two teams will play additional doubles matches to conclude the weekend.
 
Middle Tennessee, Murray State and North Alabama will be in action down the boulevard at Lipscomb.
