Bruins Defeat Lipscomb in Hidden Dual to Close Out Fall Season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Wrapping up its fall slate of tournaments in the Music City, the Belmont University women's tennis team had another productive day at the Belmont Tennis Complex as the Bruins topped rival Lipscomb in a hidden dual to close out the Belmont/Lipscomb Fall Invite. Battling through a pair of three set affairs and prevailing in several close matches, Belmont claimed four singles victories and earned wins in five of six doubles matches.
 
Dominant in doubles play, the Bruins got 6-4 and 6-1 wins from sophomore Abi Solomon and graduate student Meredith Roberts and sophomore Anastasiya Zholdakova and senior Taylor Trondson. Solomon and Roberts defeated the Bisons' Sofiia Paladi and Anait Arutiunian while Zholdakova and Trondson cruised to a 6-1 triumph over Lipscomb's Taisia Yakunina and Alina Cherniaieva.
 
Belmont went 3-0 in Saturday's second round of doubles action with freshman Mariia Hlahola teaming up with Solomon to beat Paladi and Arutiunian 6-3. The duo of Zholdakova and Roberts bested the Bisons' Alina Cherniaieva and Emma Zakordoniec 6-4 as sophomore Aly Getty and freshman Libbie Hamilton won by the same score against Lipscomb's Perri Howard and Liza Diachenko.
 
In singles, Zholdakova and Solomon gutted out three-set victories and sophomore Viktoria Kliimand got past the Bisons' Anja Trbeznik in duplicate 7-5 sets. After a convincing 6-2 first set win against Paladi, Zholdakova dropped the second set 6-4 before taking a third-set tiebreaker 7-2. Solomon took a 6-3 opening set versus Arutiunian and clinched the match with a 6-3 set three victory after things became knotted at a set apiece.
 
Getty glided to a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Howard and Trondson forced a third set against Takunina after evening the match with a 6-4 second set win. Hlahola won nine games in a 6-4, 7-5 setback to Sasha Dobranos of Lipscomb.

Middle Tennessee, Murray State and North Alabama were in action at the opposite end of Belmont Boulevard at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on Lipscomb's campus.
