NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University showed promise in doubles and singles but ultimately fell to Vanderbilt in tonight's 7-0 sweep by the Commodores.
In the opening round of doubles, Belmont got off to a fast start. On the first two pairs, the Bruins got identical 5-1 starts. Alas, Vandy showed why they have a top-25 squad. On both pairs, Vandy clawed back from near defeat to differing results.
Despite the comeback, seniors Somer Henry and Peyton Lee pulled themselves together and held onto the match.
In singles, the lone Bruin to smell some roses was freshman Gina Feistel. She won her opening match 6-4 before succumbing to Yufei Long.
The loss dropped Belmont to 5-4 while Vanderbilt moved up 8-1. The Bruins will return home next Thursday, March 3rd, and face the Villanova Wildcats at one p.m.
