CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Another weekend, another win. The Belmont men's tennis team managed to survive some singles scares and beat the Chattanooga Mocs on Sunday, 4-3.
Belmont got started in doubles on court three when second-year senior Taisei Miyamoto and Swedish sophomore Alfred Wallin picked up the win over Jordan McClure and Ryan Mudre. Later on, with the doubles point hanging in the balance, transfer Jack Randall and senior Arthur Toledo finished their thriller with the win for the first point of the match.
The singles matches proved to be as tense as any this spring for Belmont. After going down 1-0 in all six rounds, the Bruins were backed into the corner. After Tomas Luis, Toledo, and Randall fell in two sets, the Bruins found their form.
In the four-spot, Ian Cruz pulled off back-to-back 6-3 wins over McClure to take his point. After Luis lost on court one, Belmont couldn't afford anymore slip-ups. So, after Miyamoto pulled off the win over sophomore Peyton Gatti, it all came down to Wallin on court six. He pulled it off with a quiet 6-2 victory to seal the comeback campaign.
Belmont is now 13-5 in singles play and 4-4 in doubles through three spring matches. Tonight's impact players of Miyamoto, Wallin, and Cruz are now 7-0 in singles action.
The victory moved Belmont to 3-0 this spring. They will be back on the road next Saturday when they travel to Greenville, South Carolina, to face Furman at noon.
