NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Belmont Bruins women's tennis team wasn't wasting any time today. The girls finished off Alabama A&M 4-0 to clinch a 7-5 finish in non-conference play.
Before you could blink, doubles was over. The Bruins built up identical 5-0 starts on courts one and two. On pair two, Somer Henry and Peyton Lee flew to the first 6-0 spot of the day. Next, Gina Feistel and Meredith Roberts pulled off their own 6-0 sweep to pick up point one for BU.
In singles, the Bruins needed just three to seal the deal early. First, Roberts speeded her way to the golden ticket win on court six with back-to-back 6-0 wins. Next, Henry lost just one set on her way to ending her three-match singles losing streak: 6-1, 6-0. Finally, freshman Abi Solomon got a small monkey off her back by winning the match point on court three: 6-0, 6-1. It was Solomon's first win since her return from injury three matches ago and it helped boost Belmont to the top.
Next up, OVC play. The first obstacle: Tennessee State on Friday at their place. The match will start at noon.
