NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Belmont Bruins men's tennis team was excellent all around the Belmont Tennis Complex and captured their 7-0 win over Cumberland University earlier today.
Starting off on court one, doubles partners Diego Castro and Tomas Luis were playing with poise. As the reining conference duo of the week, nothing else was expected. Those two rode the big wave to victory over Phoenix's Hughes N'Goma and Jackson Vaughan. Motoring over to court three, Taisei Miyamoto and Alfred Wallin worked through some mid-match tension to take home the first point of the match for Belmont by three rounds.
Advancing into singles play, we got things rolling early on court two. Luis showed up in quick form to even his dual record at 4-4 to defeat Hughes N'Goma in two sets. Next up on court three, Jack Randall wanted to let off some steam after him and Arthur Toledo lost in doubles. Commanding his fire and lighting his drive, Randall rocketed past German Suarez in two sets.
With match point in sight, Toledo turned and burned with a signature smile on court one. Making moves like Jagger, Toledo took home the match point in two sets. After that, Ian Cruz, Miyamoto and Wallin all finished with sweeps of their own on courts four, five and six respectively.
With the win, Belmont men's tennis is 5-3 with some time to breathe. Next up, Bellarmine on Friday, Mar. 11th at two p.m. back at the Belmont Tennis Complex.
