Box Score CONWAY, Ark.-- Belmont University Softball defeated Arkansas at Pine Bluff in in an exciting 5 innings recording 12 runs, 14 hits, and ten RBI, 12-1.
The Bruins did not wait to get to work in this matchup. Bottom of the first Alicia Veltri bombed a homer to left center to start the Bruins off. Baie Ensio was already on base from a walk and stole second. The two rounded the bases for a 2 RBI home run, 2-0.
The Golden Lions countered right back opening the second with their own homerun, 2-1.
Bottom of the second Lauren Veltri singled and reached scoring position at second off of a wild pitch. Lauren Veltri was quickly brought home as Emily Cockrill ripped a double into center field, 3-1.
The Bruins held the Golden Lions to their 3-1 lead with a quick 1-2-3 inning in the top of the third.
Belmont was all over the bases today. Bottom of the third, Alicia Veltri walked. Ellison Ollinger came up and contributed a double to move Veltri to third. Audrey Lyle singled and Veltri was called out at home. Two on, Varner at the plate, reached first on a fielder's choice. An error by the Golden Lions brought in both Ollinger and Lyle, 5-1.
After two outs to start the bottom of the fourth the Bruins recorded 7 runs and 8 hits for another successful inning. Belmont tallied 8 singles from Ensio, Ledbetter, Indy Cockrill, Lyle, Lauren Veltri, and Emily Cockrill. Both Ollinger and Spurlin walked. Indy Cockrill and Ollinger both stole second. Back to the top of the lineup Gabrielle Givers pinch hit for Cavanaugh Kathryn Flowers pinch hit for Ensio both also singling. This inning alone proved how tactical the Bruins are around the bases.
Freshman pitcher, Delayna Bryant earned her first career start with the Bruins today. Bryant allowed only a single hit in her first start.
