NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The times are changing around here. For the first time since Mar. 17, 2017, the Belmont Bruins beat Murray State after today's 4-3 win. So much to dish about, so little time to tell so let's get you the need-to-know nuggets.
In doubles, the three pairs of Bruins all made decent headway quickly. The tandem of freshman Gina Feistel and Meredith Roberts are the perfect example of differing styles coming together. Feistel's powerful attacks and Roberts' controlled tempo cause confusion everywhere they go. On court one, the pair finished off Murray State's best duo, Annika Pschorr and Stasya Sharapova, by four sets.
After that, seniors Somer Henry and Peyton Lee played like their usual self and took home point one for Belmont by the same 6-2 tune.
In singles, the Ukrainian freshman Anastasiya Zholdakova rocked and rolled on court four. Faster than you could say "sweep", Zholdakova cooked her foe Natalie Slezakova in two sets for her fourth win this spring. After that, fellow freshman wunderkind Feistel pushed back above .500 with her seventh win: 6-3, 6-3. Her victory came against the nine-win number one option of Murray State: Sharapova. Finally, the Bruins clinched match point after Henry took care of court three in two sets. It was her sixth win this spring.
This was Belmont's third all-time win over the Racers. They move to 9-5 with two straight wins to begin OVC play.
They will return tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. and face Austin Peay. The Govs have won the OVC championship the last two springs.
