CHARLESTON, Ill. - - Let's get that win wrapped up for the road! Belmont came up aces and beat Eastern Illinois 5-2 to close the door on the regular season.
Much like the men's match, doubles was won in numerical fashion. Gina Feistel and her partner Taylor Trondson teamed up for the first time and took down their opponents: 6-1.
In court two's action, the usual styles of Somer Henry and Peyton Lee cranked out another hit. Fast and focused, the seniors closed out their regular season careers with win number 12 this spring: 6-2.
In singles, Feistel got the win after her opponent, former OVC player of the year Rachel Papavasilopoulos, got hurt in the first set and could not continue.
Elsewhere, Henry handled her own on pairing number two by bouncing 2021 2nd team All-OVC player Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova in two rounds.
After that, Belmont got their final boost toward victory from the same source as yesterday in Edwardsville. Anastasiya Zholdakova closed her first regular season in the states by winning her eighth match of the spring over South African freshman Christine Gouws in two hard-fought sets.
The Bruins have finished 12-7 in their final spring as OVC members. They have tied the 2019 team for most wins in the last decade, and they will now gear up for one final run in the OVC tournament.
