NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team fell to league-leading Southeast Missouri 6-1 in an OVC match held Saturday at the Belmont Tennis Complex in Nashville.
Prior to the match, the program's three seniors (Lauren Carelli, Somer Henry, Peyton Lee) were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
After the ceremony, the match began with doubles. The visiting Redhawks posted wins in the first two matches to grab the 1-0 lead. Romana Tarajova and Ksenia Shikanova won at #1 as they defeated Gina Feistel and Meredith Roberts 6-4. Then at #2, Daniela Hlacikova and Teona Velkoska beat Somer Henry and Peyton Lee 6-2. The match at #3 was unfinished since the doubles point had been determined.
In singles, Southeast Missouri continued their strong play, capturing five of the six positions to clinch 6-1 match victory. The lone Belmont win came at #1 as freshman Feistel defeated Tarajova in three sets: 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
The women's tennis team is back in action tomorrow as the host UT-Martin at 4:30pm at the Belmont Tennis Complex.
