OXFORD, Ala. – The stage is set for Belmont University as they will take on the UT Martin Skyhawks in their first appearance of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship tournament Thursday, May 12 at 10 a.m. CT. The Bruins have had a successful season as they closed the regular season with a 30-15 record, 20-8 conference record. 

The Ohio Valley Conference tournament is being hosted at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama, a neutral site for all participants. Every matchup of the tournament can be watched on ESPN+. 

The Bruins have been seeded second in the tournament falling one game behind the Murray State Racers. Belmont will face the number three seeded UT Martin in the fifth game of the tournament. 

After one day of play in Oxford Tennessee Tech, EIU, Austin Peay, and SIUE have been eliminated. Both SEMO and UT Martin are moving on in their respective brackets.

  • Belmont Softball proved their spot in the OVC Tournament all season long through their grit and determination 

  • Belmont has swept five OVC Teams Austin Peay, SIUE, Tennessee Tech, Morehead State, and Eastern Illinois

  • The Bruins have posted six shutouts on the season

  • Four Bruins received All-Conference honors from the OVC announced this week

  • Kristen Green was named OVC Freshman of the Year 

  • Both Green and Cavanaugh were named to All-OVC First Team 

  • Pitcher Emma Summers received an All-OVC Second Team nod 

  • Audrey Lyle picked up the Rich Tiner Altruism Award and the Academic Achievement Award at the Bruins' Choice Award ceremony

  • Green Summers and Emily Cockrill were named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team 

  • Cavanaugh finished regular season play leading the Bruins with an even .452 batting average, .616 slugging percentage, .523, 66 hits, 12 doubles, and 30 stolen bases breaking the Belmont record

  • Green posted a .333 batting average leading the team with 41 RBI  and 8 home runs 

  • Summers posted a 2.09 ERA on the season going 13-7 with 129 and a perfect game 

  • The Bruins lead the OVC in on base percentage (.382) and stolen bases per game (2.02) 

  • Cavanaugh heads the OVC in batting average ranked sixth nationally, while leading in on base percentage, stolen bases, stolen bases per game also ranking in the top 25 nationally in each

  • Pitcher Alicia Veltiri holds the top spot in the OVC for walks per game at .63

  • UT Martin closed out the regular season 33-17 while 17-8 in conference 
  • In the regular season the Bruins defeated the Skyhawks 4-3 in the second game of the series and fell 1-0 and 2-1 in the additional games 

  • Green posted a two RBI home run, and an RBI single in the Bruins' win over UT Martin
