NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University soccer complex at E.S. Rose Park has a new look and feel with upgraded turf installed this summer. LigaTurf by AstroTurf, which is a FIFA-certified synthetic turf used by professional soccer clubs around the world, is Rose Park's latest edition.
Â
"I am excited to announce the addition of this world-class soccer turf," said Belmont Vice President, Director of Athletics
Scott Corley. "It will provide a huge benefit for both of our soccer programs as we compete for championships in the Missouri Valley Conference. I am grateful for President Dr. Jones and the University's continued support of the needs of our coaches and student-athletes."
Â
The new turf, which was installed by Turf of America and completed on July 1, combines durability with natural grass playability. The Bruins will begin training on the new surface during men's and women's soccer's preseason.
Â
"The completion of the soccer turf project is a tremendous upgrade for our program," spoke men's soccer head coach
David Costa. "This is yet another example of our university's support and ambition to compete for championships in soccer."
Â
The renovated field will provide an enhanced student-athlete experience for Belmont's soccer teams.
Â
"We are excited for the soccer field's newly installed turf," commented women's soccer head coach
Heather Henson. "We are thankful for the commitment by President Dr. Jones and the university's senior leadership understanding the importance of renovating the field. It provides our program a high-quality training facility to help develop our team and continue to recruit high-level student-athletes."
Â
Coach Henson continued, "The surface plays like real grass so it will aid in our preparation for when we compete at institutions with natural or artificial grass. Thus, the new turf will help attract more opponents to compete on Belmont's quality home soccer field."
Â
In its construction of the field, Turf of America installed new drainage and a shock pad underlay. The infill features Silica Sand and BrockFill, which is a highly engineered wood particle specifically designed to improve traction and reduce artificial turf heat.
Â
The Bruins are heading into their first year as full Missouri Valley Conference members after both soccer programs spent the 2000 season as affiliate members of the league.
Â
The women's team kicks off their 2022 campaign with exhibition contests at Lipscomb (Aug. 10) and UAB (Aug. 14) before Belmont hosts Union University (TN) for its season opener on Thursday, Aug. 18. The men welcome Memphis (Aug. 14), UAB (Aug. 17) and Trevecca Nazarene (Aug. 20) for exhibitions on the new turf before the Bruins begin their regular season at Rose Park with Southern Indiana visiting on Thursday, August 25.
