Women's Tennis Takes on Austin Peay in Evansville, Hosts UCA Over Weekend

Bruins Travel to Evansville, Indiana, Friday, Welcome Central Arkansas for a Doubleheader Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After beginning its 2023 campaign with a sweep, the Belmont University women's tennis team heads into its second weekend of indoor play with a trio of matches. The Bruins (1-0) get their first road test of the new season Friday when they travel to Evansville, Indiana, for a non-conference match with Austin Peay. On Saturday, Belmont hosts Central Arkansas for a doubleheader at the Ensworth Tennis Center.

Friday afternoon's match with the Governors is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. first serve.

The Bruins will take on the visiting Bears Saturday at 10 a.m. and again at 3 p.m. Live scoring of Saturday's pair of matches will be available at BelmontBruins.com.

Belmont earned the doubles point and claimed all six singles matches in straight sets last Sunday in its season-opening 7-0 win over NCAA Division II Lee University at the Ensworth Tennis Center. The Bruins dropped only one doubles set in the victory.

Following their dominant 6-1 win against the Lady Flames at No. 3 doubles, sophomore Viktoria Kliimand and senior Taylor Trondson were selected as Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week.

Austin Peay enters Friday with a 1-1 record having dropped a 4-3 decision at Middle Tennessee to begin the season last Sunday before earning a 6-1 win at Western Kentucky Thursday afternoon.

Central Arkansas is off to an 0-2 start with only one match win at No. 1 doubles. The Bears were defeated 7-0 by both Southeast Missouri and Missouri last Friday in Columbia, Missouri.

Both the Governors and the Bears compete in the ASUN Conference.

Belmont and Austin Peay are former members of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Governors earned a 5-2 win over the Bruins last April at the Belmont Tennis Complex.
