Men's Tennis Takes on Austin Peay on the Road, Welcomes Lipscomb This Weekend

Belmont Faces Governors in Evansville, Indiana, Saturday Before Hosting Bisons Sunday Morning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Following a season opening win last Sunday, the Belmont University men's tennis team returns to match action this weekend with a pair of ASUN Conference teams on deck. The Bruins (1-0) get their first road test of 2023 Saturday afternoon when they travel to Evansville, Indiana, for a non-conference matchup with Austin Peay. On Sunday morning, Belmont hosts nearby rival Lipscomb in a Battle of the Boulevard affair at the Ensworth Tennis Center.

Saturday's match with the Governors is slated for a 3 p.m. first serve, while Sunday's home contest with the Bisons is set to begin at 10 a.m.

Live scoring will be available for Sunday morning's Battle of the Boulevard match.

Belmont got its new campaign underway last Sunday at the Ensworth Tennis Center with a 5-2 victory over NCAA Division II Lee University. After sweeping doubles, including a pair of convincing 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the Bruins claimed four of the top five singles matches. Juniors Riccardo Trione and Alfred Wallin, along with sophomore Ian Cruz, all won in straight sets.

Saturday will be Austin Peay's season opener.

Lipscomb is also off to a 1-0 start after beginning its season last Friday with a 6-1 win over NAIA member Cumberland University.

Both Belmont and the Governors are former Ohio Valley Conference members. The Bruins defeated Austin Peay 6-1 last April at the Belmont Tennis Complex.

Nearly a year ago to the day (Jan. 28, 2022), Belmont notched a 5-2 win against the Bisons at the Richland Country Club. After dropping the doubles points, the Bruins won five of the six singles matches.
