EVANSVILLE, Ind. - - Belmont University women's soccer (1-6-6, 0-1-4 MVC) traveled to Evansville (0-3-8, 0-0-5) Sunday afternoon in a conference matchup. The Bruins fought against a defensive UE team that had yet to drop an MVC match this season.
Both teams scored in the second half in a well-balanced match. Neither team found a second goal, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Each team recorded double-digit shot totals: Belmont 10 and Evansville 12. The Purple Aces held the advantage in the corner kick battle, 5-1.
Evansville had an opportunity to strike first after the break.
Sarah Doyle made two consecutive saves that kept UE off the board. She ended the match with four total.
Belmont scored shortly after the halftime break. Evansville was called for a handball inside the 18-yard box in the 55
th minute.
Maci Pekmezian scored on the ensuing penalty kick and gave Belmont the lead, 1-0.
Evansville responded in the 67
th minute with their goal courtesy of Hailey Autenreib. The junior's first goal of the season resulted from traffic in the penalty area, with an assist from Kaylee Woolsey. The match ended in a draw, 1-1.
