Volleyball Tops Bradley in Five

Five Bruins Record Career Highs in Win Against Bradley

PEORIA, Ill. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (11-12, 5-4 MVC) wrapped up their road stretch against Bradley (7-14, 0-8 MVC). The Bruins topped the Braves in a five-set thriller.

How it Happened

Set one was a back-and-forth battle from the first serve. After a couple Belmont errors, Bradley took a 14-17 lead midway through the set. The Bruins continued to fight and reclaimed the lead at 23-22. With an ace from Izzy Schauer and kill by Ally Peterson, Belmont pulled away in the end to take the set 27-25.

Bradley came out swinging to start the second. The Braves jumped to a quick 3-7 lead off two kills from Jasmine Green. The Bruins later worked their way back in the set at 14-16 off a kill from Kristen Clemons and a block by Kamryn Olson and Sydney Willis. Bradley ended the Bruins' run and controlled the set the rest of the way to take the second 19-25.

Belmont got off to another slow start in set three. The Bruins eventually evened the score at 12-12 as Brenna Kauffeld, Brooke Gilleland and Peterson recorded three kills each. Both teams continued to trade big swings until Gilleland added another kill to even the score again at 18 all. Bradley went on to reclaim the lead and finish the set on top 20-25.

Both teams went point for point to start the fourth. The Bruins later pushed their way to a 17-11 lead with a block from Clemons and Kauffeld. Belmont continued to stay hot as Gilleland rattled off three kills in a row to push the Bruins' lead to 23-18. The Bruins went on to take set four 25-23.

The fifth set was another back-and-forth battle to start. Belmont went on a 4-0 run capped off with a kill from Kauffeld to take a 10-8 lead. The Bruins' attackers continued to put up aggressive swings as Belmont took set five 15-12.
