Hlahola and Zholdakova Go 1-1 at ITA All-American Championships

Women’s Tennis Duo Claims Win against Louisiana Tech Pair

CARY, N.C. – Belmont University women's tennis' top doubles tandem of sophomore Mariia Hlahola and junior Anastasiya Zholdakova went 1-1 over the weekend at the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina.

After receiving one of two ITA wild card entries into the 32-team pre-qualifying doubles draw, Hlahola and Zholdakova faced USC's Grace Piper and Parker Fry in the opening round at Cary Tennis Park. The duo was unable to get past Piper and Fry in the first-round match, ultimately falling 8-6.

In the consolation bracket round of 16, Hlahola and Zholdakova notched their first ITA All-American Championships win with an 8-5 victory over Louisiana Tech's Olga Bienzobas and Alexia Romero.

The pair, along with the rest of the Bruins, will turn their attention to the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships this weekend in Springfield, Missouri. Hosted by Missouri State at the Cooper Tennis Complex, doubles and singles play will begin Friday and conclude Sunday with the finals.
