VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (11-15, 5-7 MVC) fell in three to Valparaiso (16-9, 8-4 MVC).
How it Happened
Both teams went back and forth to start the first set. With an ace from
Elizabeth Godfrey, Belmont went up 6-4. Valparaiso then went on a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead at 6-10. The Beacons continued to push until
Emily Warmenhoven put down back-to-back kills to bring the Bruins within two at 14-16. Valpo then went on to finish set one on top 20-25.
Belmont got off to a slow start in set two.
Brooke Gilleland rattled off three kills to help Belmont reclaim the lead at 14-11. The rest of the set was an all-out battle. With a huge block from
Kristen Clemons and
Kamryn Olson, the Bruins tied it up at 19 all. Gilleland continued to swing big for Belmont and evened the score again at 23-23. Valpo made one final push to take the second 23-25.
The Bruins struggled to get things started in set three. After a 4-0 run sparked by a kill from
Laura Shoopman and an ace from
Izzy Schauer, Belmont worked their way back in and tied it up at 9 all. Valpo regained control and continued to lead the set until the Bruins evened the score at 17-17 off a kill and ace from Gilleland. Despite the late run, the Beacons went on to finish the set and match on top 22-25.

Belmont will take on UIC (14-10, 5-6 MVC) on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be found on belmontbruins.com.
