NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (12-18, 6-10 MVC) fell in four sets to Evansville (9-19, 4-12 MVC).
How it Happened
Set one was all Belmont to start.
Rachel McBride served up two aces and with a kill from
Kamryn Olson the Bruins took an early 9-4 lead. Evansville then went on a run of their own to get back in it and the rest of the set was back-and-forth.
Elizabeth Godfrey recorded an ace to give Belmont the edge at 21-20. The Aces went on to reclaim the lead and take the first 22-25.
Evansville had the hot start in the second. Belmont continued to trail until
Brooke Gilleland rattled off back-to-back kills to even the score at 18 all. The Bruins went on another late run capped off by a block from
Laura Shoopman to extend their lead to 22-19. Belmont continued to apply pressure and finished on top 25-22.
Belmont trailed early in set three. A kill from
Sydney Willis brought the Bruins within two at 11-13. The Aces then went on a run to take a commanding 13-21 lead. Evansville claimed set three 16-25.
Both teams went back-and-forth to start set four. Gilleland recorded three early kills and with a kill from
Emily Warmenhoven the Bruins tied it up at 5-5. Another kill from Shoopman kept Belmont in it midway through the set. Evansville went on a big run to push their lead to 21-10. The Aces finished the set and match on top 11-25.
