ST. LOUIS – Following their on-field efforts throughout the 2023 season, Belmont University men's soccer's
Jansen Wilson and
Dylan Steely have both been named All-Missouri Valley Conference as announced by the league office at the postseason championship banquet Tuesday evening in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Both played an integral role in the Bruins' success this fall and were selected to the All-MVC Second Team.
Â
A graduate midfielder, Wilson was also an All-MVC Second Team pick last season while sophomore defender Steely was a member of the 2022 MVC All-Freshman Team and landed a spot on last year's MVC All-Tournament Team.
Â
Leading Belmont in points (17), shots on goal (23) and total shots (49), Wilson was pivotal for the Bruins' offense as he tied sophomore
Brock Kiper for the most goals on the team. Wilson found the back of the net six times this season and assisted on another five goals for the second-most of any Belmont player. It is the second consecutive year Wilson led the Bruins in shots.
Â
A native of Elizabethtown, Kentucky (Elizabethtown HS), Wilson notched multiple assists in two matches and recorded his first career brace in the 3-1 win at Bradley. For his road performance against the Braves, Wilson was tabbed MVC Offensive Player of the Week and Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Player of the Week. He also garnered
College Soccer News National Team of the Week and
Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week honors.
Â
Scoring a goal in five different matches this fall, Wilson completes his collegiate career with 33 total points, 10 goals and 13 assists across five seasons. In his two years at Belmont, Wilson earned multiple assists on four separate occasions as he tallied six goals and 11 assists.
Â
Following a stellar redshirt freshman campaign, Steely was only even more impressive this season. In addition to anchoring the Bruins' back line, Steely contributed on the offensive end with three goals and a trio of assists. He scored or assisted on a goal in five different matches while placing five of his 11 shots on target.
Â
Starting all 15 matches he played in, Steely collected national Team of the Week honors from
Top Drawer Soccer after accounting for five points in two Belmont victories the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1. The Hoover, Alabama (Hoover HS), native scored a goal and had an assist in the 3-1 win at Presbyterian College before heading in the equalizer in the Bruins' 2-1 comeback triumph against Drake.
Â
Belmont secured a berth in its conference's postseason tournament for the sixth-straight season, finishing 8-7-3 on the year. The Bruins reached a high ranking of No. 74 in the NCAA RPI (Rating Percentage Index) in mid-October and are ranked regionally in the final United Soccer Coaches West Region poll of the regular season.
