Belmont Now 5-0 After Day One of the Blazer Bash

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Belmont University softball continues their undefeated streak with a rally win over The University of Alabama at Birmingham (6-4) and an offensive victory over Lindenwood University (5-0) at the UAB Blazer Bash. 

Maya Johnson picked up both wins today for her fifth of the season. Emma Summers earned the start against UAB to add 3 strikeouts to her name. Kailey Brown entered in the sixth during Lindenwood. 

Grace Gressly 2 run single secured the win over the Blazers.

How It Happened - Game One 
UAB started out strong to earn the first run of the day on a fielder's choice. Belmont countered quickly with two runs from an Emily Cockrill and a Daria Haynie sacrifice fly. 

After three scoreless innings, the Bruins capitalized on a UAB error to go up 3-1. 

UAB had a successful inning in the sixth with a 2 RBI home run and a sacrifice fly to lead for the first time 4-3. 

Enough to fire up the Bruins, Belmont entered the seventh confident and ready to rally. Kristen Green slammed a double to put herself in scoring position. Tactical on the bases Green scored on a UAB fielding error, Kailey Brown took first base.  Another fielding error put two on for the Bruins. Grace Gressly blasted a single to the wall to bring both home, 6-4. 

Belmont kept the Blazers from coming back with impressive defense including a diving catch by Kaley Varner on the foul line.
