Baseball Limited Offensively in Defeat at No. 21 North Carolina State

Bruins Held to Two Hits in 7-0 Loss on Saturday in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Belmont University baseball team was held to two hits and 21st-ranked North Carolina State hammered three home runs to hand the Bruins a 7-0 loss on Saturday night at Doak Field in Raleigh.

Belmont (2-5) was held without a hit until Sam Slaughter poked a two-out single into right field in the fifth inning. Right-handed NC State starter Matt Willadsen (W, 2-0) tossed six shutout innings, with the Slaughter knock his only hit allowed.

The Bruins tallied their only other hit in the ninth inning on an infield single from Chase Katafias.

Jordan Zuger (L, 0-2) delivered three strong innings in his second start of the season, giving up just a solo home run in the second inning.

However, with Belmont trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Wolfpack worked a walk, got a single, and then hit a three-run home run to take a 4-0 advantage.

NC State added a two-run homer in the fifth and scratched across another run in the seventh.

Aaron Hubbell allowed no earned runs with a strikeout in the seventh inning and Jake Timbes delivered a scoreless frame in the eighth out of the Belmont bullpen.
