Women's Tennis Returns to the Music City, Hosts Wofford Friday

Bruins Welcome the Terriers Indoors at the Ensworth Tennis Center

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Following a challenging five-match road stretch, the Belmont University women's tennis team returns to Nashville this weekend as the Bruins (2-8) host Wofford Friday evening indoors at the Ensworth Tennis Center. First serve from the Music City is slated for 6 p.m.

Belmont is looking to snap a seven-match skid after beginning the season 2-1. The Bruins are 2-2 at the Ensworth Tennis Center with victories over NCAA Division II Lee University and Central Arkansas.

Last weekend, Belmont took on the Big Ten Conference's Indiana and claimed two points on the road. Earning the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the Bruins got a three-set victory from sophomore Anastasiya Zholdakova at the third singles flight.

For their efforts against the Hoosiers last Sunday, Zholdakova and fellow sophomores Abi Solomon and Viktoria Kliimand garnered Missouri Valley Conference recognition Wednesday afternoon. Zholdakova was tabbed MVC Singles Player of the Week, while Solomon and Kliimand were named MVC Doubles Team of the Week. The duo cruised to a 6-1 No. 2 doubles win at Indiana.

Last February, Belmont defeated the visiting Terriers 5-2 at Hadley Park Tennis Center. The Bruins won the top two doubles matches and the top three singles matches in the triumph. Kliimand was also victorious in a tightly-contested straight-set match at No. 5 singles.

Wofford enters the weekend at 7-4 riding a seven-match win streak. However, only three of those wins have come against NCAA Division I opposition. The Terriers are coming off a 4-3 home victory over Appalachian State last Sunday and have earned wins against Presbyterian (7-0) and Gardner Webb (4-3). Beginning the year 0-4, Wofford has suffered lopsided losses to Clemson, North Florida, UNC Asheville and Georgia Southern.

Live scoring of Friday evening's match will be available at BelmontBruins.com.
