NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Having already locked up a top seed and the 2023 Horizon League South Division title, the Belmont University men's tennis team goes for its 12th-straight win Friday afternoon at Tennessee State in both team's regular season finale. Attempting to complete league play unscathed, the Bruins (18-5, 9-0) take on the host Tigers (10-13, 6-3 Horizon) at 12 p.m. indoors at the Hadley Park Tennis Center in the Music City.
Â
Friday's match was originally scheduled to be played outdoors at the TSU Tennis Complex but forecasted rainy weather has forced the contest indoors.
Â
There will not be live scoring of the match.
Â
This weekend's meeting is the second between the crosstown conference adversaries this season as Belmont swept Tennessee State 7-0 to begin Horizon League play back on March 23. The Bruins took No. 1 and No. 3 doubles in convincing fashion before winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets. The tightest singles match of the afternoon came at the fifth spot where junior
Riccardo Trione prevailed in a 10-point super tiebreaker in leu of the third set.
Â
Last weekend, Belmont swept Tennessee Tech and Southern Indiana 7-0 at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex to capture its second consecutive regular season conference championship. With their win over the visiting Golden Eagles last Saturday, the Bruins set the single-season program record for match victories.
Â
The Tigers enter the weekend having won six of their last seven matches. Last Sunday, Tennessee Tech halted Tennessee State's six-match win streak with a 5-2 defeat. In Horizon League action, the Tigers' only losses have been at the hands of Belmont and the Golden Eagles.
