NORMAL, Ill. – Competing in its first-ever Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, the Belmont University women's tennis team is set for the 2023 MVC Women's Tennis Championship this weekend in Normal, Illinois. The third-seeded Bruins take on sixth-seeded Bradley Friday afternoon in the opening round. First serve from the Gregory Street Tennis Courts is slated for 2 p.m.

Hosted by MVC regular season champion Illinois State, the three-day tournament features two first-round matches Friday before the semifinals Saturday and the championship match Sunday morning. The top two seeds received opening-round byes.
Belmont enters the postseason championship 9-12 on the season after going 6-2 in conference play. The Bruins' only two MVC losses came indoors against the champion Cardinals on the road this past weekend (5-2) and versus Drake (4-2) two weekends ago.
Last Sunday, Belmont shut out the Braves 4-0 indoors at the Parkside Fitness tennis center in Pekin, Illinois, to close out the regular season. Claiming 6-3 wins at the top two doubles spots, the Bruins earned a trio of straight-set victories in singles action. Freshman
Mariia Hlahola was dominant at the top of the lineup with a 6-3, 6-0 win, while sophomore
Viktoria Kliimand and senior
Taylor Trondson clinched the match at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
If Belmont defeats Bradley Friday, the Bruins will advance to the MVC Championship semifinals where they will face the second-seeded Bulldogs Saturday at 2 p.m.
The winner of the MVC Tournament earns the league's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship, held May 5-27 with first and second rounds taking place May 5-6 at 16 different campus sites.
