NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Belmont University Softball is set to head to Peoria, Ill. to take on Bradley University in the final regular season weekend series.Â
The Bruins will take on the Braves beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5. The series will continue on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. with the final meeting at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.Â
The Missouri Valley Conference Softball Championship will be hosted by Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Ill. The tournament is set to begin on Wednesday, May 10.Â
The Bruins hold a 24-23 record moving into the last weekend of the season, while posting a 9-14 conference record.Â
The Bruins went 1-2 against Drake University with a 2-1 victory to start the season. The leader in RBI, Brenna Blume tallied the game winning RBI on a double to bring her season total to 30. Blume posted an additional RBI against the Bulldogs in the 9-4 loss.Â
Kailey Brown posted her first homer of the season against the Bulldogs.Â
Pitcher
Emma Summers recorded her 100th strikeout over the weekend for the second time in her career. On the season Summers now has 115 strikeouts in 134 inning pitched.Â
Maya Johnson continues to hold the nation record for most strikeouts in a single game at 22. While being the only player to have two 20+ strikeout games.Â
Emily Cockrill leads the Bruins in numerous hitting categories including batting average (.327), hits (51), doubles (13), total bases (76), and slugging percentage (.487).
Kristen Green follows closely behind with a .319 batting average, 46 hits, 8 doubles, with a .458 slugging percentage.
Brenna Blume tops the Bruins in in homeruns (6) and RBI (31).Â
Bradley University 15-36 on the season while 7-17 in conference play. Lauren DeRolf is one of four Braves to start in each game this season and leads in batting average (.322), hits (55), and 29 runs. Grace French tallies 17 doubles with 27 RBI on the season for the Braves while also leading in home runs at 5.Â
French is not only a power hitter but has also seen the most action in the circle for the Braves. French has appeared in 33 games with 28 starts on the season for a 3.86 ERA. Camryn Schaller posts a 3.76 ERA in the circle leading in strikeouts with 92 in 85 innings pitched.Â
