Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Belmont University Softball closed out the regular season with a 4-3 win to sweep the Bradley Braves on the weekend.
Two first time pitchers saw the circle on Sunday's meeting with an impressive performance coming from Kristen Green. Green earned her first win in her career after holding the Braves to five scoreless innings. In her 5.1 innings, Green posted a 1.31 ERA with two strikeouts. Both Green and Cockrill allowed only two hits each from the Brave's offense.
The Bruins dished out three runs in the third to take the lead over the Braves. Baie Ensio's single began the momentum for Belmont. Ensio was brought home after stealing second on a fielder's choice. Emily Cockrill earned an RBI as she grounded out to third to score Abi Ledbetter who singled earlier in the inning. Green helped herself out to advance the lead to three with an RBI single.
Belmont added their fourth and final run of the day in the sixth inning on an error from the Braves to score Daria Haynie who reached on a walk.
Bradley scored their first run of the day also in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Abbott Badgley with
Emily Cockrill in the circle.
A RBI double from the Braves' Grace French and an RBI single from Bailey Sample scored two in the final half inning as a last ditch effort.
The Bruins earned their second sweep of the season with five hits, four walks, three RBI, and seven stolen bases on the day.
Up Next: The Bruins will head to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament for the first time in program history as the seven seed. The Bruins are set to compete Wednesday, May 10 in Carbondale, Ill. at 4 p.m. against the 10 seeded Bradley.
