RICHMOND, Ky. – Led by senior
Reeve Felner's record setting day, the Belmont men's golf team has the lead after 36 holes of the Colonel Shootout held Thursday at the University Club at Arlington in Richmond, Kentucky.Â
The Bruins have the lead after shooting rounds of 274 and 276 for a 550 total. They are 15 shots ahead of the two teams tied for second place, Austin Peay and IUPUI, who stand at 565. The two round score of 550 by BU is the second lowest in the Division I era.Â
Felner has the individual lead after carding rounds of 63 and 65 for a 36-hole total of 128 (-12). He is seven strokes ahead of IUPUI's Morgan Tournemire (135). For the day, Felner posted 14 birdies and just two birdies over 36 holes.Â
Reeve's first round 63 broke the Division I school record of 64, which has been set four previous times, most recently by Ben Simpson at Murray State during the 2013-14 season, while his 36-hole mark of 128 bested the school record of 130, most recently set by Ashton Van Horne in April of 2015 at Tennessee State.Â
Two other Bruins are among the top-15 after two rounds. Sophomore
Jack Schoenberger posted rounds of 69 and 70 to finish the day in a tie for seventh place at 139. Fellow sophomore
Conner Brown is tied for 15
th place after carding rounds of 72 and 69 for a 141 total.Â
Junior Michael Senn is tied for 31
st place at 144 (72-72), while freshman
Grey Goff, competing in his first collegiate event, is tied for 41
st place at 146 (70-76).
Four Belmont golfers are competing as individuals: graduate student
Jack Bergstrom (T-41, 146), graduate student
Joe Bultman (T-50, 148), freshman
Jack Darke (T-50, 148), and graduate student Alex Whitehead (88
th, 160).
The third and final round will begin Friday morning with an 8:30am CT shotgun start.Â
