BACK TO BACK -- Men's Golf Sweeps Team and Individual Titles at the Marshall Invitational

Sophomore Jack Schoenberger earns his first career individual title.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Belmont men's golf team made some history on Tuesday as they swept the team and individual titles at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational held this week at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia.  The Bruins topped host Marshall for the team championship, while sophomore Jack Schoenberger earned medalist honors.

This week's win marked the first time in program history that the Bruins swept the team and individual titles in back-to-back tournaments.  It's just the second time in the Division I era that the program has won back-back team titles.

With a four shot lead going into the final round, Belmont stayed steady throughout the round, finishing the day with a score of 280 and a school record 54-hole mark of 824, eight strokes ahead of runner-up Marshall (832).  Their score of 824 (-28) shattered the old record of 832, set twice and most recently at Austin Peay during the 2015-16 season.  In addition, the score of -28 is the second lowest team score in relation to par, just missing the record by four shots.

Sophomore Jack Schoenberger shot a three-under par 68 to earn his first career individual title with a mark of 200.  He finished one shot ahead of his teammate, Michael Senn (201).  The Georgia native posted six birdies and three bogeys in Tuesday's final round.  His score of 200 ties for the second lowest 54-hole score in the Division I era, just one shot off the school record of 199.  In addition, he becomes the ninth different Bruin to capture medalist honors in the Division I era.

Senn carded a four-under par 67 to finish runner-up behind Schoenberger at 201.   His score is tied for the fourth lowest in school history.  It was first runner-up finish as a Bruin.

The only other Bruin in the top-20 was senior Reeve Felner, who shot a 72 on Tuesday to finish tied for 14th place at 210.

Freshman Grey Goff posted his best finish of his young Belmont career as he tied for 25th place at 213, while sophomore Conner Brown tied for 62nd place at 224.

Freshman Jack Darke, competing as an individual, tied for 25th place at 213.

The men's golf team is back on the links next Monday and Tuesday at the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tennessee.
