Women's Soccer and Indiana State End MVC Opener in Scoreless Draw

Bruins Earn Point in First Conference Action.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont women's soccer (1-5-3, 0-0-1 MVC) hosted Indiana State (1-2-6, 0-0-1 MVC) Sunday afternoon to start Missouri Valley Conference play. The Bruins and Sycamores both showcased strong defensive play, and ended the match in a scoreless draw.

The match featured two of the MVC's top goalkeepers in Belmont's Sarah Doyle and ISU's Maddie Alexander. The two goalkeepers, both with over 200 career saves, totaled a combined six saves.

Belmont's offense came out aggressive in the first half. Despite the Sycamores finishing the half ahead in total shots, 3-2, the Bruins found themselves in control for a majority of the half.

The match was delayed for over 50 minutes during halftime due to inclement weather. When play resumed, both teams struggled in the early minutes with a slicker playing surface.

Indiana State flipped the script in the second half and challenged Belmont's defense with several deep attacks. Doyle stood strong in goal, and was assisted by a back line including Allison Brockelman, Loren House, Eliza Paisley, and Lillie Tabor.

Bruin Bullets
  • Sarah Doyle earned her third shutout this season, and 13th in her career. She finished the match with four saves.
  • Belmont picked up their first point since their draw against Western Kentucky on Sept. 3.
  • Natalie Haverland, Avery Nowak, Carly Ross, and Anna Sweeney, each recorded a shot. Haverland and Ross put their shot on goal.
  • Belmont and Indiana State ended opening MVC match in scoreless draw for second-straight year.
