Women's Tennis Dominant in Singles Action Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Closing out the Belmont/Lipscomb Fall Invite, the Belmont University women's tennis team went 4-1 in singles play at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex Sunday. After Saturday's action was canceled due to rainy conditions early, the Bruins took on Ball Sate and nearby rival Lipscomb in doubles Sunday morning before facing Arkansas State in singles.
 
The freshmen tandem of Hana Sokolovic and Vesa Gjinaj gained Belmont's lone doubles win of the day when they defeated the Cardinals' Isabele Tanjuatco and Elena Malykh 7-5 at the Bisons' Huston-Marsh-Giffith Tennis Center.
 
Sophomore Mariia Hlahola, Gjinaj and Sokolovic all won their singles matches in straight sets versus the Red Wolves, while junior Aly Getty outlasted her opponent in three sets. Despite an 8-6 second set tiebreaker that went the way of Arkansas State's Abigail Thurmer, Getty took the decisive third-set super tiebreak 10-4 after winning the opening set 6-3. Sophomore Libbie Hamilton nearly completed the singles sweep but was handed a 6-4, 7-5 loss against The Red Wolves' Rebecca Brody.
