NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (6-8) faced Lipscomb (5-5) in the Battle of the Boulevard. The Bruins fell to the Bison in three sets to finish out nonconference play.
How it Happened
Belmont started off strong in the first.
Rachel McBride and
Lilly Lutz both served up an ace, and the Bruins quickly took a 7-4 lead. Lipscomb then went on a 4-0 run to take the lead and never let up. Belmont made a late push to come back off a pair of kills from
Emily Warmenhoven and
Brenna Kauffeld to tie the set at 19 all. Lipscomb went on another run to take the set 20-25.
The second set was another close start where Belmont had an early 6-4 lead backed by two kills from
Ally Peterson. The Bruins hung in the set until the Bison went on an 8-0 run to take a commanding 7-17 lead. It was all Lipscomb the rest of the way, and the Bison took set two 13-25.
Set three was a back-and-forth battle from the beginning. Peterson had another hot start with two kills to help give the Bruins another early lead. After a couple big swings from the Bison offense and a few Bruin errors, Lipscomb took the lead at 9-12 and held on to it most of the set. Belmont was able to limit the Lipscomb runs this set and eventually reclaim the lead at 21-20. Despite the late come back, the Bruins fell in set three 23-25.

Belmont will open conference play on Friday versus Indiana State (2-8) at 6 p.m. CT in the Curb Event Center. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be found on belmontbruins.com.
