NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont women's soccer (1-6-5, 0-1-3) hosted Illinois State (2-4-3, 0-1-2) Thursday night in a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) matchup. Both teams scored in dramatic fashion and ended the night in a draw, 1-1.
Belmont played one of their best first halves of the season tonight. Despite being outshot 5-2 in the first half, Belmont won the corner kick battle, 3-2. The Bruins scored the first goal of the match.
Maci Pekmezian drilled a shot just outside the 16-yard box to the top left corner of the net for her third goal of the season.
Carly Ross picked up the assist. Pekmezian's goal is the tenth of her career. The assist from Ross was her first of the season.
Sarah Doyle recorded four saves in the match; all of which came in the first half.
After the halftime break, the Redbirds returned to their normal quantity of aggressive attacks. Illinois State found several ways to break into Belmont territory down the stretch, which led to several free kicks in the second half. During the 80
th minute, Ava Watson turned on the ball but hit her shot off the crossbar. Kelsi McLaughlin scored on the rebound and brought the score back even on her second goal of the season.

Summer Curtis each picked up yellow cards.
Both teams left the pitch with a point following the draw.
