NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (9-9, 3-1 MVC) took on Bradley (7-9, 0-3 MVC) to start the weekend. The Bruins swept the Braves for their third conference win of the season.
How it Happened
It was all Belmont to start the first. The Bruins went on a 5-0 run sparked by a kill and ace from
Brooke Gilleland to take a 10-3 early lead. Bradley worked their way back in it and after a couple Bruin errors, the Braves took the lead midway through the set at 14-15. The rest of the set was back-and-forth but with four kills from
Ally Peterson down the stretch, Belmont took set one 25-23.
Belmont got off to another hot start in set two. The Bruins jumped to a 6-1 lead behind three kills from
Laura Shoopman. With an ace from
Rachel McBride, the Bruins continued their lead at 15-12 midway through the set. After a late run from Bradley, the score evened at 20 all and the race to 25 began. Gilleland, Shoopman and Peterson continued to put up big swings and helped the Bruins take set two 25-22.
Peterson had the hot hand again for Belmont to start the third. With four quick kills, the senior helped the Bruins take a 6-3 lead that the team would hold on to the rest of the set. Belmont continued to control the set until Bradley made another late run to cut the Bruins lead to 21-20. With a kill from Clemons, the Bruins regained the momentum and went on to finish the set and take the match 25-21.
