Women's Tennis Begins Play in Murfreesboro with Pair of Wins Thursday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Opening play at the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regional Championships and the Blue Raider Showdown in nearby Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the Belmont University women's tennis team collected two singles wins Thursday. Both sophomore Hana Sokolovic and junior Libbie Hamilton secured match triumphs on day one of action at Middle Tennessee State University.
 
In the opening round of the qualifying consolation bracket at the ITA regional championships, Sokolovic topped Dayton's Laura Greb 12-10 in a third-set super tiebreaker. She will continue play Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
 
In the first round of the Blue Raider Showdown, Hamilton defeated Austin Peay's Ayden Kujawa in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. On Friday, Hamilton will take on third-seeded Mia Mayerová of Southeast Missouri State.
 
Senior Aly Getty will also be in action Friday in the backdraw of the Blue Raider Showdown.
 
Doubles gets underway Friday afternoon for the Bruins at the regional championships with senior Anastasiya Zholdakova and Getty facing Lipscomb's Sofiia Paladi and Mariia Dolzhenko at 3:30 p.m. Belmont's other tandem, Hamilton and Sokolovic, will see Tennessee's fourth-seeded duo of Vanesa Suarez and Leyla Britez Risso at 5 p.m.
 
Zholdakova is in the singles main draw at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional and will go up against Xavier's Abigail Siminski in the opening round Friday at noon.
