CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (7-11, 2-4 MVC) faced Northern Iowa (10-7, 5-0 MVC) on Friday where the Bruins were swept by the Panthers.

Northern Iowa jumped out ahead early in the first. A block from
Lucy Kay and
Kamryn Olson brought Belmont within three at 8-11. The Panthers extended their lead at 15-21. The Bruins made a late push with a block from
Bella Mathis and
Emily Warmenhoven to close the gap at 20-23. Despite the late comeback, UNI went on to take the first 20-25.
Belmont got off to a strong start in set two. A kill from
Brenna Kauffeld put the Bruins up 7-5. The Panthers then rattled off ten-straight points to take control of the set.
Brooke Gilleland added back-to-back kills for the Bruins at 12-21. The Panthers finished the second on top 12-25.
UNI took another early lead in the third set.
Alexia Smollen added a kill to bring Belmont within two at 9-11. Similar to the second set, the Panthers put together a big run to take control of the set at 9-18. Kay and Smollen recorded a block for Belmont down the stretch, but UNI eventually took the set and match 14-25.
