WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – On its third and final day at the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regional Championships in West Lafayette, Indiana, the Belmont University men's tennis team claimed three consolation singles match wins. Juniors
Esunge Ndumbe and
Eli Mizerski, along with freshman
Charlie Robin, all finished play at the ITA regional championships with convincing straight-set triumphs.
Â
In the round of 32 of the singles main draw, senior
Niklas von Hellens and junior
Sabi Roi both took their opponents to the brink in the second set but were unable to advance.
Â
"Today was all about maintaining a high level of play and discipline throughout the entirety of the match," said head coach
Jeff Cero. "As well as using our energy and emotions to keep our level high and make our opponents have to play well in order to win. I saw everyone do a great job of this today, and even in some of our opponents as well, especially in Sabi's match with Henry Ruger from Vanderbilt."
Â
Ndumbe gave up only one game in a dominant 6-1, 6-0 showing against East Tennessee State University's Francisco Lamas. Robin was just as overwhelming for Lipscomb's Facundo Perlov, earning a 6-0, 6-3 victory. After a 7-5 first set against ETSU's James Sim, Mizerski took care of the second set in 6-0 fashion.
Â
"Overall, there were a lot of good pieces to build on moving forward and pieces we are already building that we will continue," added coach Cero. "We're looking forward to getting back to work."
