NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (7-9, 2-2 MVC) faced Indiana State (3-13, 0-4 MVC) on Saturday night where the Bruins topped the Sycamores 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 20-25, 25-14).
How it Happened
The Bruins started out strong off the play of
Bella Mathis. The middle recorded three kills and two aces to give Belmont an early 14-8 lead.
Alivia Keegan added a kill to keep the Bruins ahead at 22-16. With a service ace,
Elizabeth Godfrey helped Belmont finish the first set on top 25-17.
The second set was a close fight between the Bruins and Sycamores. With a kill from
Brooke Gilleland, Belmont took a 14-12 lead midway through the second. Indiana State put together a late run to get within one at 23-22. Belmont regrouped to take the second 25-22.
ISU took control early in the third.
Erina Shin recorded an ace to give Belmont their first lead of the set at 16-15. The Sycamores put together another late run to claim the third 20-25.
It was all Belmont in the fourth.
Lilly Lutz served up an ace to give the Bruins a big 11-4 lead.
Brenna Kauffeld and Gilleland teamed up for a pair of kills to extend the lead at 19-9. Belmont went on to take the fourth set and match 25-14.
