TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (10-17, 5-10 MVC) picked up their second consecutive win after topping Indiana State (4-22, 1-13 MVC) on Friday night.
How it Happened
The Bruins got off to a hot start from the first serve. An ace from
Elizabeth Godfrey gave Belmont a 13-5 lead. Indiana State worked their way back in before the Bruins put together a late run off a kill from
Alivia Keegan to keep the Sycamores at a distance.
Bella Mathis added a kill to give Belmont set one 25-18.
The Sycamores picked up the pace to start the second set before the Bruins would tie it up at 9-9.
Kristen Clemons recorded a kill to give Belmont an edge at 15-13. The Bruins put together an impressive 6-0 run down the stretch featuring two kills from Keegan. Belmont continued on to claim the second 25-18.
ISU took an early lead in the third.
Brooke Gilleland put the ball away to bring Belmont within two at 13-15. The Sycamores continued to build momentum to take the third set 18-25 and force extra sets.
The fourth set was neck and neck from the start. Another kill from Gilleland gave the Bruins a slight edge at 18-17. ISU pushed to lead at set point 20-24. With their backs against the wall, the Bruins rattled off six-straight to come back and win the fourth set and match 26-24.
