Men's Tennis Travels to Louisville Saturday

Bruins Seek Second Consecutive Road Win

Belmont (1-3) at Louisville (5-3)
Saturday, Feb. 17 | 11:00 a.m. CT/12:00 p.m. ET
Bass-Rudd Tennis Center | Louisville, Ky.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After securing its first win of the season last Sunday afternoon at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the Belmont University men's tennis team returns to match action midday Saturday at the University of Louisville. First serve indoors at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Kentucky, is slated for 11 a.m. CT/12 p.m. ET.

On Super Bowl Sunday, the Bruins (1-3) picked up a gritty 4-3 win over the host Mocs in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After dropping the doubles point, Belmont won the top four singles matches with senior Alfred Wallin providing the clinching victory on court one. Both Wallin and fellow senior Niklas von Hellens (No. 4 singles) outlasted their opponents in three-set affairs.

The Bruins recovered from a narrow 4-3 home loss to Eastern Kentucky last Friday evening in Nashville.

Junior Ian Cruz is a perfect 4-0 on the season at No. 3 singles.

Belmont is looking for its first points against the Cardinals (5-3) since March of 2017. Last February in Kentucky, the Bruins nearly won the pivotal doubles point but were edged at the No. 1 spot after senior Tomas Luis and Cruz earned a 6-3 triumph at No. 3 doubles. Senior Riccardo Trione took his opponent to a decisive third-set super tiebreaker at No. 4 singles.

Louisville nearly upset top-10 ranked Harvard last Sunday at home in a 4-3 match. The Cardinals own wins over Cornell (6-1), Clemson (4-0), Northwestern (4-3), Bellarmine (6-1) and Xavier (6-1).

Louisville's doubles tandem of Etienne Donnet and Natan Rodrigues are currently ranked 50th in the nation, while Donnet is ranked 34th in singles. The Cardinals' Will Mayew is also nationally ranked in singles, sitting at No. 61.
