Women's Tennis Hosts Gonzaga Saturday Afternoon

Bruins Return to Nashville Following Strenuous Six-Match Road Stretch

Gonzaga (2-4) at Belmont (4-3)
Saturday, Feb. 17 | 3:00 p.m.
Ensworth Tennis Center | Nashville, Tenn.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Following a challenging six-match road stretch, the Belmont University women's tennis team returns to the Music City this weekend as the Bruins welcome West Coast Conference member Gonzaga Saturday afternoon. First serve from the Ensworth Tennis Center is set for 3 p.m.

Belmont is looking to move to 2-0 at home this season after the Bruins won their 2024 opener 4-3 over UAB at the Ensworth Tennis Center on Jan. 14.

Last weekend, Belmont split matches in Birmingham, Alabama, where the Bruins defeated Samford 4-3 last Saturday before faltering 4-3 against Southern Miss in a neutral-site match last Sunday morning. Both sophomore Mariia Hlahola and freshman Vesa Gjinaj went 2-0 last weekend at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, respectively.

Taking the doubles point against the Bulldogs and the Golden Eagles last weekend, Belmont got strong performances from its top two doubles teams with the duo of Hlahola and junior Anastasiya Zholdakova and the junior tandem of Abi Solomon and Viktoria Kliimand both going 2-0. In fact, Solomon and Kliimand didn't drop a single game with a pair of 6-0 wins.

Saturday afternoon will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

The visiting Bulldogs (2-4) have lost four straight after beginning their season 2-0. Gonzaga earned a 5-2 win at Georgetown in its season opener and claimed a 5-2 home victory over Montana on Jan. 19. Since, the Bulldogs have suffered losses to Cal Poly (6-1), Washington (7-0), New Mexico (4-3) and Seattle University (5-2).

Up Next
The Bruins remain in Nashville next weekend, hosting Troy Saturday, Feb. 24 and nearby rival Lipscomb Sunday, Feb. 25. Both matches will be played at the Ensworth Tennis Center.
