NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Following its season opening weekend, the Belmont University men's tennis team begins under the leadership of head coach Jeff Cero Friday night in the Music City as the Bruins host former Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Kentucky. First serve from the Ensworth Tennis Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Belmont travels to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for an 11 a.m. CT/12 p.m. ET match. The dual will be played either indoors at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center at the McCallie School or outdoors at the UTC Tennis Center depending on weather conditions.

Last weekend, the Bruins began their 2024 campaign against East Tennessee State University at the Ensworth Tennis Center before making the trip down the road to in-town Southeastern Conference member Vanderbilt University. Junior Ian Cruz won both of his singles matches at the No. 3 spot as Belmont took a point from the host Commodores last Sunday.

The Colonels visit boasting an 8-3 record and riding a six-match winning streak. EKU has already faced notable nationally-ranked opponents Kentucky and Georgia.

The Mocs are 2-3 on the young season but host North Alabama Friday afternoon. After dropping its first three matches, which included a date at 17th-ranked Mississippi State, Chattanooga has won its last two. Last Sunday, the Mocs defeated fellow Horizon League member Tennessee State 5-2 in Chattanooga.

The last time the Bruins and the Colonels met was in the 2018 OVC Championship semifinals where Belmont upended EKU 4-2 to reach its first OVC title match. The Bruins also earned a 6-1 win over the Colonels in the two team's regular season meeting that year.

Early last February, Belmont swept Chattanooga in Nashville. The Bruins didn't give up a single set in the victory and won every singles match in convincing fashion. In February of 2022, Belmont earned a gritty 4-3 triumph against the Mocs in Chattanooga after taking the doubles point and winning No. 4-6 singles in three-set affairs.
