BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - Belmont (11-8) and Indiana (10-9) faced off in the second game of their weekend series Saturday afternoon. Despite a 5-0 Belmont lead, Indiana slugged their way to the win column and defeated the Bruins, 15-10.
Bruin Bullets
- Mason Landers went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and hit his fourth home run of the season. Landers is 5-for-8 in the series with two home runs and six RBIs. He leads the team with 16 RBIs.
- Jack Rando delivered a two-run homer in the first inning. It was his first home run of the season.
- Landon Godsey went 2-for-4, with a two-run home run, three runs, and three RBIs. Godsey now has three home runs and 10 RBIs on the season.
- Sam Slaughter recorded two RBIs.
- Max Blessinger went 2-for-5.
- Dominic Baratta's six strikeouts is a new season high.
Belmont jumped out to an early three-run lead in the first inning.
Landon Godsey hit a one-out double to left field.
Mason Landers drove Godsey in with a single to right field.
Jack Rando stepped up and delivered a two-run home run, his first long ball of the season, and gave Belmont a three-run advantage.
Dominic Baratta went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first, picking up two strikeouts.
The Bruins kept swinging in the second, as they put up two more runs. Following a two-out walk to
Sam Slaughter, Godsey hit a two-run home run to left field. Belmont led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.
Indiana scored seven unanswered runs from the second through the fourth inning. Morgan Colopy drove in two runs on a double in the second. Tyler Cerney hit a three-run home run in the third to tie the game at 5-5. Josh Pyne and Carter Mathison hit sacrifice flies in the fourth, as the Hoosiers led 7-5 heading into the fifth.
Landers gave the Bruins a response in the fifth inning. After a pair of walks, Landers singled through the left side and drove in Godsey. Belmont left two runners on base but cut their deficit to 7-6.
Indiana got a run back in the fifth. With the bases loaded and two outs, an error from
Pete Daniel on a ground ball scored Indian's eighth run of the game.
Blake Ciuffetelli came in from the bullpen and got Mathison to pop out, for the final out.
Godsey knocked in a run for the Bruins in the sixth.
Blake Barton doubled with one out, in his return to the starting lineup. Godsey scored Barton on a ground ball two batters later. Belmont kept clawing back, but remained behind, 8-7.
The Hoosiers scored in the bottom of the inning to regain a two-run lead.
Belmont retook the lead in the seventh inning. Landers led off the inning with a solo home run to left-center field.
Jack Rando walked, and Blessinger singled after a pitching change. Daniel was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases for the Bruins, with no outs. Following a pair of strikeouts,
Sam Slaughter delivered a two-RBI single to right field. Belmont went back out in front, 10-9.
The Bruins' lead was short-lived. Indiana scored five runs on three hits in the seventh inning. The Hoosiers scored again in the eighth inning, and won the game. 15-10.
