NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two beloved members of the Belmont University women's basketball team will be recognized prior to the Bruins' matchup with the University of Evansville Sunday afternoon as guards
Tuti Jones and
Blair Schoenwald will be honored for senior day. The pair has played an integral role in Belmont's last four conference championships and back-to-back NCAA Tournament Round of 32 appearances in 2021 and 2022.
Â
Presented by Ascend Federal Credit Union, Sunday's game between the Bruins (21-7, 14-3 MVC) and Purple Aces (4-24, 2-15 MVC) will tip off at 1 p.m. from the Curb Event Center.
Â
A native of Troy, Alabama (Charles Henderson High School), Jones has started each of her last 90 games and is only 30 points away from becoming Belmont's 35th 1,000-point scorer. She has amassed 235 career steals and is only 10 steals shy of breaking the Bruins' NCAA era steals record. Jones has also tallied over 400 rebounds and distributed more than 250 assists. A breakout star of March Madness, Jones averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists in the 2022 NCAA Tournament versus fifth-seeded Oregon and 18th-ranked Tennessee while shooting 61 percent (14-of-23) from the floor and 75 percent (6-for-8) from deep. Named 2021-22 Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Jones was the only player in the nation to average over 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting over 40 percent from beyond the arc. A 2021-22 All-OVC First Team selection, Jones was the only freshman in the country to average at least 9.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in 2020-21.
Â
Jones is averaging 10.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.6 steals for her career. Tuti will be graduating in May and intends to pursue a master's degree in sport administration.
Â
A local native of Brentwood (Brentwood Academy), Schoenwald has played in 115 games over four seasons and started seven contests in 2023-24. Making multiple three-pointers on eight occasions this season, Schoenwald leads Belmont in three-point percentage (50 percent). Fresh off a career-high tying 14-point performance Friday night in the home rout of Indiana State, Schoenwald has reached double figures in two of her last four outings. She has scored nearly 350 points, recorded over 200 rebounds, dished out nearly 100 assists and collected well over 50 steals during her career.
Â
Graduating in May with her bachelor's degree in exercise science, Schoenwald plans to attend physician assistant (PA) school to obtain a master's degree in medicine.
Â
Both Jones and Schoenwald have been a part of the Bruins' last 88 victories.
